Queen Wilhelmina Lodge Southern Belle Depot Talimena Scenic Drive Hiking Annual Events Day trips & Area Activities Hiking at Queen Wilhelmina State Park

Do you want to get away from your day to day business and relax? The Ouachita Mountains are the place to do this! Take the Talimena Scenic Drive to the Park, stopping at one of the numerous overlooks to enjoy the majesty of these peaks. Perhaps you would like to hike the trails available to you in the park. Along the paths you may see wild flowers to identify, listen to the songs of the birds populating these woodland areas, or gaze across the vista from Lover's Leap. Many animals could be nearby just out of sight. Raccoons, deer, skunks, rabbits and even black bear live in these woods. Near the park are many national forest hiking trails, if more serious hiking is your game.

In the park itself is a small playground just right for young children. The teenagers in your group will enjoy the volleyball court just waiting for them. Ride the miniature train or play putt putt golf at the southern Belle Depot.

The city of Mena, just 13 miles east of the park offers a city park with 2 spring fed ponds to enjoy as well as an historic cabin in its center. A block from the park is the old KCS depot, housing a train museum and the Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce. Several antique shops line the streets for your shopping pleasure. Outside the city are Lum & Abner's Jot-Em-Down Store, Little Missouri Falls, Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area, and other natural sites to see.

If you require more excitement try the Butterfly Festival, the Mountainfest craft show, or settle in for a winter fun fest with Christmas on the Mountain. We have your relaxation in mind.
